With the vacuum pump, you suck the enclosure to a negative pressure. The built-in pressure gauge in the housing gives a display on the Smartphone's screen to make sure you bring the housing to the right negative pressure. Then it's just a matter of waiting for the vacuum system to indicate that no pressure change has taken place, and that way you know you can take the set underwater with confidence.
